Ghost in the Machine

Ghost in the Machine was a site-responsive performance installation led by Jill Martin Boualaxai with Alma Sua Lindenhovius, Fiona Oliver Larkin, Elvey Anna Stedman and The Sativa Drummers.

Created for Hidden Door 2025 at The Paper Factory in Edinburgh, the work imagined animal-like figures inheriting and misreading the tasks of the factory’s lost workers.

Through movement, live drumming, floor drawing and paint pouring, the performers transformed three decommissioned machines into sites of ritual, memory and invented labour.

Across five evenings, marks, objects and residues accumulated into an evolving installation, a post-industrial fable written across the fabric of the building.
