Pate Du Verre

I have taken on a  project space at the Edinburgh Sculpture workshop for a period of time dedicated to exploring ‘Pate Du Verre’ which is the earliest form of glass making. My hope is to create a series of hollow glass objects which can be lit from within.

It’s a slow process involving creating refractory molds out of flint and plaster which are then packed with glass frit and a binding agent such as gum arabic. When fired to low temperatures the glass melts fuses together.
